How I Used the National Lottery to Transform My Money Mindset for Good

Introduction

Ten days ago, I stumbled upon a TikTok video featuring Bashar (channeled by Darryl Anka). In the video, he explained how the lottery could be used as a tool for self-growth. His exact words struck a chord with me:

“When playing the lotto, play to allow yourself to get in touch with your relationship with wealth and be in the state that you prefer to be. When winning in any way becomes equal to winning in any other way, you afford yourself the greatest probability of allowing abundance in that way as well as other ways.”

I must have replayed the video at least 20 times to grasp its full meaning. Inspired, I decided to test his philosophy, embarking on a 10-day experiment with the lottery. What began as a simple attempt to win some money evolved into a transformative journey that reshaped my relationship with abundance.

Day 1: Setting the Stage

My initial goal was, unsurprisingly, to win the lottery. But as the experiment unfolded, I realized the true goal was far greater.

I purchased 10 tickets with identical numbers to be played for 10 consecutive days. These numbers became my focus. I wrote them everywhere—on my diary, my desk calendar, even on my arm every morning. I treated them as a mantra, visualizing myself in a timeline where those numbers were the winning ones.

I kept reminding myself of Bashar’s words: “Winning in any way is equal to winning in any other way.” This mantra shifted my focus from financial gain to introspection, helping me explore my mindset around money.

The Experiment Unfolds

The next 10 days brought an unexpected cascade of life-altering events. The money itself became secondary to the profound lessons I learned:

  • Unlocking Intuition: I began experiencing moments of clarity that felt almost psychic.
  • Releasing Limiting Beliefs: I uncovered and let go of deeply rooted generational scarcity mindsets.
  • Adopting a Value-First Approach: I shifted from a lack-driven perspective to one focused on creating and recognizing value.
  • Building Connections: I attracted new, meaningful friendships.
  • Aligning Financial Flow: Money started showing up in just the right amounts when I needed it, ensuring I lacked nothing.
  • Gaining Career Clarity: I discovered newfound confidence and purpose in my career path.
  • Trusting My Journey: I learned to honor and trust my unique life path.

Today, on the final day of this experiment, I have one ticket left. Yet, I no longer feel attached to the outcome. Whatever happens tonight, I know I’ve already won. The personal growth I’ve experienced is worth far more than any jackpot.

An Unexpected Epiphany

Around day five, I revisited an old textbook from my doctorate studies and came across a quote from Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin in Your Money or Your Life:

“Frugality is enjoying the virtue of getting good value for every minute of your life energy and from everything you have the use of…”

This sparked a cascade of reflections on the resources we possess and how we treat them. I wasn’t thinking about environmental sustainability (although that’s important too) but rather our internal resources—our energy, creativity, and time.

As someone who was a chronic people-pleaser for most of my life, I realized I had spent years dishonoring these precious resources. Even after beginning my healing journey four years ago, I still hadn’t been fully mindful of how I spent my time and energy. This experiment brought me face-to-face with the truth: if I didn’t honor my internal resources, how could I expect external abundance to flow?

The Ultimate Takeaway

The most valuable insight from this experiment was learning to consciously seek value in every moment of my life. This simple affirmation—”I will honor my resources and get good value from them”—has since become my daily mantra. It’s a mindset that ensures every win, no matter how small, feels just as significant as any other.

So, what will I win tonight with my final lottery ticket? Honestly, I can’t wait to find out. But even if it’s nothing, I already know I’ve gained everything I needed.
